Welcome to NANIS, NANIS is a Norfolk and Norwich Indian Society. NANIS organises events and cultural activities of Indian tradition. Please find more information about how to become member and upcoming events.

Indians generally pride themselves on being sociable, have a strong sense of community, and thoroughly enjoy celebrations and festivities as and when an opportunity arises to gather together.

Message from President

I, Daksha Raja, would like to thank you all once again for putting your trust in me and giving me this opportunity to head our lovely family, NANIS. This will be my third year as President.

I would also like to thank and extend my welcome to the newly elected secretary, treasurer, committee members along with the trustees for coming on board to keep our society going, or should I say “running.”

This year we have recruited three new committee members and a trustee, who I am sure will bring some new and fresh ideas with them and I am looking forward to working with them.

I would like to thank Mrs Aruna Ondhia, Mrs Hema Patel and Mrs Kiran Chauhan, who have stepped down this year, for their continuous support and hard work and hope to see them back with us in the future.

Our next 2 years call for big celebrations.

This year 2022 marks the 50th Anniversary for Ugandan Asians’ deportation into UK. We do still have a few families here who left everything in Uganda to settle in Norfolk. These hard-working families have bounced back over the years and with hard work have done well for themselves.

Next year 2023, marks NANIS 40th Anniversary, so would kindly request you to please send in your ideas or suggestions in writing to the Secretary via email or speak to any of the committee members to mark these two big occasions or regarding any future events and what you would like us to organise. We will endeavour to look into feasibility of all suggestions.

Please also tell us how as a committee we are performing. Positive feedback and constructive criticism are always welcome.

With your continued support and backing, the committee will be motivated to arrange bigger and better events, so please support us over the coming year to make our Society’s foundation stronger for our future generations.

We have now set up an online contact form, please go to and fill up the appropriate form. If you have any questions regarding this form, please do not hesitate to drop us an email.

During these unprecedented times, if any of our members need any help or even want a chat, all you have to do is pick up the phone and call one of us. We will try and assist wherever we can.

This is your Society, and we all have a big part to play by working together to keep it going, as it gives us a platform where we can all meet each other, discuss things, have fun and learn from each other.

Lastly a lovely quote for us all to reflect on

Not all of us can do great things
But we can do small things with great love
By Mother Theresa

Best wishes
Mrs Daksha Raja
NANIS President
